Our History

The River Artisans Cooperative, formerly known as the Jelly Bean Tree, was created in 1975 by a group of local artists and crafts people in Saxtons River, Vermont.

Founded as a space to allow local artisans to display and sell their work outside of a formal gallery setting and within a supportive community of fellow creators.

In pursuit of this goal a true cooperative was born. The River Artisans shop is staffed by members and run by members, most of its operating expenses are covered by a small display fee and commission on sales, with any remaining expenses met through fundraising.
